Review by Christian Perring
Mar 23rd 2010 (Volume 14, Issue 12)

Browsing Nocito's website shows that he has taken pictures of many well-known people and groups including Cat Power, Bat for Lashes, and Mary Kate Olson.  There are plenty of images of people partying.  So it's striking that his first book, Loads, shows very few faces.  It's a strange and pleasing collection of images with a nice color palette and a bristling energy.  There's geometry, cultural references, color, black and white, nature, industrial decay, big and small, and lots of randomness.  It's hard to make much sense of it all, but it is stylish and appealing.  There's a dark stain on a bed spread, the cardboard box home of a homeless person, a disco ball, and a log fire on a TV.  Nocito has an eye for striking and bizarre images, and he is especially good at assembling them all together in a way that puzzles and pleases.
