Review - Virgin Sex for Girls A No-regrets Guide to Safe and Healthy Sex by Darcy Luadzers Hatherleigh Press, 2006 Review by Christian Perring Feb 10th 2009 (Volume 13, Issue 7)
Virgin Sex for Girls has slightly more of an agenda than its companion volume, Virgin Sex for Guys. It is especially concerned that girls feel pressured into having sex earlier than they want to, so it devotes plenty of attention to explaining that it is okay to say no and to put limits on what you want to do. One of the statistics Luadzers highlights is that 90% of girls under 16 regret their first sexual experience. The first chapter is on why girls want to have sex, and it includes many examples where having sex seems like a bad idea. Many of them involve trying to impress boys or keep them or because they have impaired judgment due to drinking. The second chapter is reasons girls have for not wanting sex: not being ready, religious values, parents' values, fear of pregnancy and so on. The following chapters are on same-sex attraction, knowing if you are ready for sex, telling if a guy is lying to you in order to get sex, getting ready for sex, sexual language, safe sex, virgin sex, and sexual abuse. The language is clear, and the book is full of personal stories of girls dealing who have gone through the problems discussed in the chapters. Unfortunately, the website supposedly associated with the book, noregretsguide.com, does not exist.
